Description

Original air date:  January 20, 2016
Run Time:  90 minutes

The Supreme Court’s 2014 ruling in Alice v. CLS Bank International drastically altered the patent landscape, resulting in the nullification or invalidation of countless patents in the computer software, business method, and Internet-related arts.Today, having a comprehensive understanding of Alice and its progeny is a necessity for patent prosecutors and litigators. For prosecutors, it is equally important to understand the guidelines patent examiners will apply in analyzing claims.Similarly, patent litigators must be aware of current patent eligibility standards in order to properly and quickly assess a patent’s strength (whether for assertion or defensive purposes). This webinar provides an overview of significant Court rulings and trends since the Alice decision, and a walkthrough of examples from the PTO’s 2015 Interim Guidelines, as well as some additional real-life examples. Additionally, the webinar provides practical tips for patent prosecutors in drafting and prosecuting applications under the current 35 USC § 101 regime.  Speakers:  David Beck of Viavi Solutions, Inc.; Valerie Calloway of Alltech; Judy Yee of Microsoft; moderated by Paul Kitch of Nixon Peabody.
