Description
Original air date:  April 21, 2015.  A presentation from the Biotechnology Committee.  No CLE credit available.

In this webinar, we will be paying particular attention to the application of the Guidance to inventions that, debatably, could be treated by the USPTO under the laws of nature/abstract ideas approach to subject matter eligibility. Michael Cygan, Senior Legal Advisor in the Office of Patent Legal Administration at the USPTO, will explain how the approach applies to biotech inventions. Roy Issac and Ronald Kamis will discuss how the courts have handled biotech inventions in both past and currently ongoing section 101 case law. Debora Plehn-Dujowich will discuss the USPTO Abstract Idea examples and will also present hypothetical  biotech examples and their treatment under the Guidance. We will end with a question and answer session, involving all speakers. Carla Mouta will moderate.
