Description
Original air date:  4/11/19. Copyright Clarified: Recent Supreme Court and Legislative Developments
The past six months have seen several major developments in U.S. copyright law, in both the judicial and legislative realms. This webinar brings you up to speed on what you need to know about each of them.
Two U.S. Supreme Court decisions in March 2019—the Fourth Estate and Rimini cases—brought procedural clarity that will make copyright infringement litigation more uniform nationwide. A third decision—this one by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals--involving software giants Google and Oracle has upended assumptions about software copyrights and fair use, and is now poised for potential Supreme Court review.
Meanwhile, Congress ended 2018 by passing a long-sought overhaul of the how music copyrights are protected and utilized. And in January 2019, the President signed documents ratifying a treaty that will open the door to more copyrighted works for people with visual impairments.
Presented by: Brian Wassom of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP  and Nancy Mertzel of Mertzel Law PLLC
