Description

Original air date:  August 25, 2016.  Being Aware of, Using Patents to Support, and Generating Value Through Open Source Software

Be aware!  Open source code is regularly used by your client's code developers, probably without your client's knowledge, and its use can unknowingly obligate your client to many traps within compulsory open source licenses.  This webinar will spend 90 minutes taking you through the features and pitfalls of many open source licenses, explain how the mere inclusion of small amounts of open source code can obligate your client to such licenses, and provide guidance of how to safely incorporate and distribute open source licensed software.  This program also includes a discussion of the usefulness of patents in the traditionally anti-patent open source world, and provides practical tips for clients that are considering contributing to, or starting, an open source project; including how such a project can generate value.  Presented by:  Michael Atlass of Qualcomm, Inc.; Terry Ilardi of IBM Corporation; and Joanne Montague of Davis Wright Tremaine, LLP
