Description
Original air date:  December 10, 2015.  Ethical Representation of Every Client:  Paying or Pro Bono

Representation of pro bono clients raises many of the same ethical issues as does the representation of paying clients. This is no more realized than when a practitioner takes on a case within one of the regional Inventors Assistance Programs, which provide access to prosecution services to qualified inventors in all fifty states. In addition to the professional responsibility obligations every lawyer has to every client, certain rules provide additional guidance if the attorney-client relationship is one based in pro bono.As such, this webinar is geared toward identifying what those specific rules may be, and further includes a discussion regarding related factors to keep in mind when prosecuting patent applications for the good, including for example, how to effectively limit the scope of services, what to expect when taking over a pro se inventor’s pending application, and how to reduce any unnecessary risks in the provision of the services.Plus, find out an up-to-date status of the growing Inventors Assistance Program and how you may participate as a volunteer in your area.  Presented by:  Mark Privratsky of Lindquist & Vennum, LLP; Jay Erstling of Patterson Thuente IP, Professor Emeritus at William Mitchell College of Law.
